Stalybridge Country Park and Walkerwood Reservoir

Stalybridge Country Park is on the outskirts of Stalybridge, it's accessible by car with a couple of free car parks on either side, but you can also walk there via the canal from Stalybridge town centre.

Things to Note About the Route

The various routes around the country park are fairly well maintained for the most part, although there is one route across the waterway which is a raised concrete bridge that is very narrow with only a couple of passing points. It's an interesting route, but be prepared if you go that way it might be a bit more difficult. The route down the side of the reservoir is well maintained and paved by United Utilities. Once you're own the loop back you're walking along only gravel fire trails and country roads before walking down a standard street before getting back to the country park. There are a few fairly high elevations on this walk as well, but the routes are well trodden so not too hard to climb.

Stalybridge Country Park

There's lots of interesting lakes and views. The raised concrete walk is quite interesting as well, but a bit more challenging. There's a nice valley in the middle to look across too.

Walkerwood Reservoir

A fairly standard reservoir, the most interesting bit is during spring you get the large migration of thousands of frogs across the roads at the back of the reservoir which is a sight to behold.
