Loki 7

Portfolio

I have studied computing with a focus on design and business. I have become competent with Microsoft Office, Access, Excel and their equivalents. I also have experience in HTML, XHTML, PHP, mySQL, JavaScript, Macromedia Flash/Actionscript, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and other web technologies. I have been hand-coding XHTML and CSS for many years and am extremely proficient in it.

Listed below are some websites/projects I have worked on in the past:

» Loki 7 & Dragon Cloud
Address: http://www.loki7.co.uk/ & http://www.dragoncloud.co.uk/
Tags: XHTML, CSS, PHP, CMS, Portfolio
Involvement: 1999 - Present

Started in 1999, Loki 7 is my personal website and online portfolio of my work. Originally coded in HTML4 and hosted on (the now defunct) Geocities, Loki 7 has grow and evolved over the years as I have learnt more about the web and the technologies that power it.

Loki 7 now runs on a dedicated CMS (CMS Made Simple) and is coded to be XHTML Strict and fully CSS compliant, along with being cross-browser compatible. As well as this I have integrated a few social features into the site, including a customised front end for my blog running on Livejournal, however by doing this I have had to sacrifice the XHTML Script compliance and run the site in Transitional mode for validation.

» Chatham House Grammar School
Address: http://www.chathamhouse.kent.sch.uk/
Tags: Updates, HTML, Student Life
Involvement: 2002 - 2004

While working for Chatham House Grammar as their website administrator, I maintained not only the internal intranet but also worked on adding and amending content and features to the public website. I worked with internal departments to help make sure their sections of the website were kept current, along with working with the IT department in regards to adding new features to the site.

» UCLan Students' Union
Address: http://www.yourunion.co.uk/
Tags: CMS, Development, Student Life
Involvement: 2004 - 2007

The UCLan Students’ Union was an interesting project for myself as it was the first time I had worked with a large-scale CMS system. I was charged with over-hauling the website design, along with updating content on the site to bring it up to date. The CMS itself was based off Drupal, but built in a more modular way, with required content modules that included adverts provided by the CMS provider.

Along with this the SU had a few other websites for their media outlets (a radio station and newspaper) that I was in charge of updating and amending.

» UCLan Anime & Manga Society
Address: http://www.uclananime.co.uk/
Tags: CMS, Development, Design, CSS, XHTML, Forums, Student Life, Anime and Manga, Community
Involvement: 2005 - 2007

The UCLan Anime and Manga society website (now defunct and replaced by a Facebook page) was a small site designed and updated by myself to show updates and schedules for the societies meetings, along with a forum to allow online chatter. It ran off a basic CMS system and PHPBB forum software.

» Eyes on Final Fantasy
Address: http://www.eyesonff.com/
Tags: XHTML, CSS, PHP, Integration, Development, Design, Final Fantasy, Community
Involvement: 2003 - Present

Eyes on Final Fantasy fansite which evolved out of a forum community called “The Highwind” that has been running since 2000. I joined the website in late 2003, at which point I also joined their Site Staff team.

During my time working on the site I have helped and overseen quite a few overhauls of the websites design and content. The current incarnation runs on a manually coded template system that relies on PHP includes to make sure all the correct template components are loaded onto each page. However this is all due to change in the immediate future as the website and forums get upgraded to version 4 of the VBulletin software which includes a content management system, along with better integration between the community elements of the website (forums, chatroom, blogging software, etc).

» DirectFlooring2U
Address: http://www.directflooring2u.co.uk/
Tags: XHTML, CSS, PHP, e-commerce, digishop, Flooring
Involvement: 2008 - 2010

DirectFlooring2U is an online flooring e-commerce site, designed and built by myself while working at Stockport Flooring. It was built using the Digishop software created by Sumeffect. The site, since its inception has undergone many amendments and much customisation, including a custom payment module being coded.

My job was to keep the website up to date, along with providing new and innovative features and design changes to help improve sales using a variety of information sources such as Google Analytics to figure out how to best tweak the site to get the most amount of visitors and then convert those into sales.
